Flashback to May 2016. Stockholm was the host city for the Eurovision Song Contest and I had tickets for the Grand Final! The search for accommodation was not simple. Many hotels had blocked rooms for international delegations going to Stockholm, other hotel rooms were suddenly 3x as expensive. Long story short: I finally booked into a youth hostel in a dormitory where I left again after half an hour, because it was really nothing for me. I couldn’t even open my suitcase. Booking eventually brought me to Quality Hotel Globe.
Eurovision Song Contest
Quality Hotel Globe is located near the Globe Arena or Globen as the Stockholmers call the event hall. There is even a direct passage to Globen from the hotel. The taxi dropped me off a block further. Because of the Eurovision event he should not drive closer.
At the reception I was warmly welcomed and got a apologetic warning: there would be some events in the hotel for the Eurovision Song Contest weekend. It seemed most delegations slept in Quality Hotel Globe! The only reason I found a room in the hotel was because one of the countries that had slept in the hotel did not reach the final. The receptionist also added that some of the potential winners also slept in the hotel and I could expect one or more afterparty’s. I was really happy with this coincidence and had soon forgotten the expensive room rate !
That’s how I ended up in the elevator with the male half of the presenter’s duo. We apparently were sleeping on the same floor. In the morning at breakfast I recognized some of the artists and on the after party in the bar I walked into Christer Björkman (from the Swedish delegation). The Polish Polinova also held a small after party in the lobby. What a great experience!
Quality Hotel Globe
I had a fantastic experience in Quality Hotel Globe. The contrast with the dormitory in the hostel couldn’t be bigger: soft twin beds, a lovely Danish design chair that I have seen before at hotels of the Nordic Choice chain (I wrote it before: I would like to have one of those chairs at home too) and a luxurious bathroom with everything you need.
Quality Hotel Globe is a fairly recent hotel and the lobby feels cozy and stylish. The breakfast is not very special – but maybe I have been so spoiled and used to the hotel breakfasts that I do not get excited easily anymore. Downstairs is also a restaurant but I did not try that myself.
Practical information
How to reach Quality Hotel Globen?
If you are going to a concert at the Globe Arena (or one of the surrounding halls), an overnight stay at Quality Hotel Globe is definitely recommended. If you want to visit Stockholm, the hotel is somewhat out of the way. There is a subway nearby (metro stop: Globen) which takes you to the center in 15 minutes.
Address: Arenaslingan 7, Johanneshov – Stockholm
In the neighborhood
Close by is a shopping center and you can also take the SkyView for an exceptional view of Stockholm but honestly, apart from this, there is not much to experience in this area. A bit further away you find Skogskyrkogården.
